Could This “Internet” Really Deliver the News?

This is fabulous. It’s a local San Francisco news story about how this newfangled “internet system of computers” might one day deliver the daily news. Could such a thing ever really be feasible?

Best part: it took two hours to deliver the text edition of the paper by phone modem at an hourly data rate of five bucks per hour. I’m not too sure this “internet” has much of a future. “Imagine if you will” indeed.

For me, the best part of the story is where the guy narrating says of his fellow reporter that he doesn’t have to worry about the internet putting him out of a job.

Absolutely fascinating! The hair! The clothes! The computers!! What a flashback. I remember buying Grandpa M one of those “put-it-together yourself” computer kits way back when. What a laugh compared to today.
