Introducing… Wedge!

The baby’s “fetal name” is Wedge. That is, since we still don’t know the gender, we’ve been calling him or her Wedge for a few months. That’s the name we’ll be using for a while, and honestly, at this point it will be difficult for me not to call the child “Wedge” after his/her birth. My best friend’s son just turned six, and we still call the little guy “Frifry” from time to time.

Wedge’s first picture was on August 1 at 12 weeks (see Photos/Video page). We had to get an early ultrasound because the doc thought Maryalice was a bit further along than originally thought. No worries, though. It turns out that we’re right on schedule and everything looked great. The next ultrasound is set for September 19, when we should find out if Wedge is a girl’s or boy’s name.

For those who haven’t yet asked me directly, can you guess where the name “Wedge” came from and what its significance is? Reply in Comments.

Sounds like a golf name to me. Pitching wedge. Sand wedge. Lob wedge. I think you’re trying to make the young man into a golfer.

It just reminds me of all the things we had to do to get Missy to sleep when she was in her last trimester: wedging pillows under her belly, her lower back, her legs…

You named him/her after the inventor of the wedgie? Cool! Maybe they’ll bring something new to the table; bully technology has been stagnant for a good 20 years or so.

(Settle down, geekydaddy-o….I know it’s a Star Wars reference.)

  4. Allen says:

Yup. Wedge Antilles was the only “extra” Star Wars character I can think of to make it through the original trilogy alive.

  5. Jeremy Granger says:

Wow. Didn’t see that one comin’.
