Hey Joe! Yup, that's where I am right now. I keep giving things up one at a time. I have this dream that one day, I'll give something up and realize, "That's it! That's the perfect balance!" I doubt it's that easy. :)

Hey Geeky Dad these are some great thoughts. This is so true for so many dads. As a dad who has been there and made it part way through to the other side I can share these three things with you:
1)You have to put some of your hobbies/desires/sleep on hold for a few years.
2)God brings you children when you are at the peak of your mental and physical ability. He has provided you with all that you need.
3)You will get to the other side soon enough. Schedules and tasks get a little lighter and easier to handle. And just about then Baby #2 will arrive.....

Forgot to mention the one killer feature that MobileMe/iCal is missing: Microsoft Exchange calendar sync. The iPhone is capable of syncing with Exchange(push instead of fetch even!), so I do not understand why Entourage or OWA are the only options on OS X to access the work/school calendars most of us are forced to use. When this feature is added, MobileMe will be a necessity for many Mac users, rather than a luxury storage solution.

Regarding Take 1: MobileMe,

I actually do "use MobileMe or iDisk to sync files across multiple machines... [and not]to the exclusion of my local boxes."

Simply (1)create the folder on your iDisk drive,(2) then create an alias for it which will be stored on each of your computers. This way when you save a file to the "local/alias" folder, it automatically syncs with the cloud. Yes, the original is stored on the cloud, but you have a physical copy of each file on each computer associated with MobileMe that has this alias folder on it.

This gives the benefits of Foldershare with a cloud backup in case of extreme catastrophe (i.e. home robbery, fire, flood, etc.). While this may seem like I am being overprotective of my files, many of us have documents that involve months, sometimes years, worth of work that we don't trust to periodic thumb drive or external HD back ups.

Additionally, the iCal, iPhoto, Safari, & Keychain sync between computers & the iPhone give the edge to MobileMe over Dropbox considering the price is the same. Compare the relative utility of 2GB(Dropbox Free) to 20GB(MobileMe), obviously most of us will need more than 2GB sooner rather than later, however few people will need the additional space between 20GB and 50GB(Dropbox Paid).

Isn't it amazing how much a toddler can capture your attention for hours when they're just being themselves? And, as the father of two daughters, well, isn't it great to be absolutely smitten with everything they do? Heads up: That doesn't change nearly two decades later...
